Use this checklist when comparing Medicare coverage. Bring it to your conversation with Scott.
Doctors & hospitals
- Are my current doctors and specialists in the plan’s network?
- Which hospitals can I use, and do I need referrals?
- What happens if I need care outside the network?
Prescriptions
- Are all of my medications on the plan’s drug list (formulary)?
- Which pharmacies are preferred, and is mail order available?
- Are there coverage rules such as prior authorization?
Costs
- What is the monthly premium, and do I still pay my Part B premium?
- What are the deductibles, copayments and coinsurance?
- Is there a yearly out-of-pocket limit?
Travel & lifestyle
- Do I travel often or spend part of the year in another state?
- Is emergency or urgent care covered while traveling?
- Do I want extra benefits such as dental, vision or hearing?
Timing & rules
- Am I in a period when I can enroll or change plans?
- If I choose Medigap later, will I have to answer health questions?
- How does my employer or retiree coverage work with Medicare?
